Blurb: A story of one girl’s courage in the face of our society’s worst offences. Anya’s Lyric is the critically acclaimed new book by Nikhil Kumar, that tracks the journey of a young girl’s self-discovery and the roads that lead her from a turbulent childhood to peace. We see the world through Anya’s eyes – a girl who suffers from a learning disability – and discover places, incidents, and people through her. A girl born on an unlikely day to an unlikely couple, Anya stumbles through her chaotic life that gets undone at every step because of her inability to communicate what she wants to say. Follow her journey of courage, self-discovery, and empowerment as she gradually finds the hidden path to peace.

About author: Nikhil Kumar lives in Bangalore with his wife and their stuffed dog. They are both advertising professionals and lead very exciting lives on the streets, dodging traffic. Their fridge is filled with cans of Diet Coke and their water heater doesn’t work. He doesn’t smoke (up) anymore.

Review: I usually opt to read a book after reading the blurb and after reading blurb of this current book – Anya’s Lyric by Nikhil Kumar, I cannot say the book disappointed me but it did not entertain me either. The book is a collection of stories or incidents that are related with Anya. Anya is a differently abled person who is written in an ordinary way. For me nameless characters are confusing and this is what made this book not up to my mark. The characters are “A woman with a mole on her left cheek” “A man with one hand” “The magician”, which did confuse me, but I should mention this style of writing I never came across earlier. This needs an appreciation. I really wish characters had names so that this would have turned out to be a good read for me at least. Sometimes I lost the flow, where I had to stop, re-read to understand the plot. It took lots of my efforts and brain into reading it, so I would say; it is a difficult and different reading. The cover of the book Anya’s Lyric is very attractive, I liked it. Despite the fact being a short novel, as it got confused in between, I had to give it 4days to complete. I liked author Nikhil Kumar’s writing and narration style. I found the story to be simple but written in a very complex way. Reading this book was a different experience and one of the kinds of 2016 for me. And I am not spilling beans on – the opening sentence, “I was born because of one man’s inability to read”, to know why was she born because of a man’s inability to read, you will have to read the book to find out more. Happy Reading.

  1. It surely looks like an interesting read just that for now I would prefer a lighter read. I read another review of the book and it said the same that the characters were confusing however the plot interesting. Nice review there..

Yes, I like when you write to me.
