Hello folks, have you heard of the acronym TANSTAAFL? I am sure you have.

It stands for: There ain’t no such thing as a free lunch.

All through life and at death too you’ll experience this. Think of the free lunches you’ve received so far and count them as your blessings, there are not too many of those going around! I thank the lovely Novemberschild for having me over to guest post on her wonderful blog. Thanks and stay blessed all of you

 Billy, for you a cupcake

My mom today did bake.

I wish someone would help me,

This math is way beyond me.

Billy, I’ll get the pizza hot,

Just wait a spot.

I wish I could drive my date,

Your car please my mate.

Billy, let me kiss you dear,

I love when you are near.

I wish I had a necklace in agate,

To wear on our next date.

Billy, I’ll sort your excel sheet,

It’s sure to take a beat.

I wish I could take off today,

On a week long holiday.

Billy, I’ll get your tea dear,

Buttery scones and pear.

I wish I could get a new car,

Mine’s just not at par.

Billy pa, I’ll clean the attic,

Make it go all slick.

I wish I could go on a world trip,

You see if I don’t, I’ll flip.

Billy, sir I’ll tidy your room,

It’s in such a gloom.

I wish I had your new coat,

Old man you’ll soon be on your boat.

Billy, I’ll take you across,

Smoothly shall you pass.

A coin I will take,

For the last journey you’ll ever make.

Habit is what keeps you going

Different people inculcate different habits in terms of their daily lifestyle. These habits are always unique in their own ways which started like mandatory routine to be followed on part of an individual’s daily lifestyle, making it a unique way of their life. Some habits are different and weird on the part of the spectator when it gets noticed.  However, some people are so well organised that their habits are really appreciable and others tend to copy them.  These habits become a necessity in the life of an individual right from the start of the day till the night’s sleep. In today’s time, while we wake up in the morning with the irritating nose of the alarm bell, we start to follow our own habit as part of the routine. Right after we snooze the alarm for multiple times and when we finally decide to open the eyes, maximum number of people tend to open their cellphone to check for the messages or the social media notifications.  While a notification from a near and dear one always makes us smile or surprises the heart out, ‘no notifications’ on the phone screen makes us worry about the well being of the dear ones.

Being part of today’s generation, I confess, I do have a habit of scrolling through the phone notifications right after I stop the alarm bell.  To be honest, I expect notifications from the person who is very close to my heart, and I am so badly addicted and committed to the person that I wish to start my day with seeing his face in the morning to be the first thing. The same person is always the last one I bid good night in the previous night, still I always hope and expect some notification from his side in my very first look up on the phone.  It is still a rarity but I always wish that whenever I open my eyes, I expect him to be the person on my phone’s notifications asking me, ‘where are you? I am waiting for you here.’

When I am too lazy to get up and need some more minutes to be on my bed, I prefer to go through my phone’s gallery once, to start my day. I have always been a huge photography enthusiast and I love to spend time going through the details of the photos I have clicked in the past.  Further, abundance of photos of the one special person I care the most makes me scroll through the album often and again without bothering about time. This has, in some occasions, made me reach office late (confession).

Good or bad, I must say that we can’t judge people by this kind of habits they inculcate. Everybody has his own unique way to start off his day and each one of them has their individual opinion and reasoning about the habit. Whatever the habit may be, it makes one unique and special on his own terms whether it is a good or a bad habit. To add, I love to see her face as the first thing in the morning and I feel this morning habit of mine is special, so is she for me.

Do feel free to share what you do the very first thing in the morning after the alarm is off.

Convo with CGBFxx00897

Today I was asked by my soul friend to write a blog post for her website. She knows how petrified I become if anyone asks me to write more than 140 words. I even write emails that are shorter than most of the tweets on Twitter. Having never said no to her any demands, I had to find a way to avoid the difficult situation.

I decided to put in the theory of “100 Monkeys” to test. The theory says that an infinite number of monkeys sitting at an infinite number of typewriters would eventually reproduce the works of Shakespeare by chance.

I wrote a quick and dirty computer simulator in Python and fired it off. As I was staring the random strings being generated by the program I was getting disheartened. Then suddenly there was a ping on my terminal. I was more petrified by seeing that ping than I was when someone asks me to write. The ping simply said: “Hello, there!” and there was a prompt waiting for me to type something.

I was undecided whether I should respond to it or not. What if some government agency found that I have developed a cutting edge technology, knowing my level of programming the chances of it being true is as slim as AK49 talking sense. Muttering “Aall iz well” I typed: “Hello”

The screen flickered for a few second and the terminal suddenly transformed into a beautiful chat room, reminding me of my Yahoo! Chat days. It was reassuring. I was little less hesitant to respond now. So our chat started.

Me: ASL please (For the uninitiated: ASL = Age Sex Location)

Stranger: 450 years, Female, Zeta Nibiru

(Reading this I was sure that my computer is hacked. So I disconnected the wifi. The stranger things doesn’t end with disconnection)

Stranger: I am not using your network, but we use Galaxycom network.

Me: What’s that company? I have never heard of any internet provider by that name.

Stranger: It’s a new startup located 4 light years in Alpha Centauri star system. You should be knowing this. I don’t understand how you guys are not bothered about your own backyard. There was a huge celebration last millennium when It was launched. I was there.

Me: You said you are just 450 years old how come you were there in last millennium launch celebration?

Stranger: 450 years according to my planet.

Me: Oh! What is your name? How did you contact me? Why did you contact me?

Alien Stranger: My name is CGBFxx00897. Your monkeys wrote a code which redirected your own satellite and send a message to us. Through that we triangulated your location and contacted you. We contacted you to tell you to stop your monkeys as they have redirected our plasma ray gun towards your planet and if they fire it, your planet will be destroyed.

Hearing this I was frozen. I immediately pressed Ctrl+C to stop execution and the earth was saved. I was feeling like I am superman, having saved the humanity.

CGBF: Thanks for not maligning my species, but you yourself are quite capable of, and doing it right.

Me: Excuse me? You mean to say we are destroying our planet?

CGBF: Yes, our database tells us that you guys are killing your own species and extincting other species too in the process.

Me: Extinction is the price to pay for development. We are not killing our own species; it is just some odd people who are misguided.

CGBF: Who are those misguided people? How many of them? Why those who are “Not misguided” are stopping them?

Me: They are doing these killing for political reasons, religious reasons, developmental reasons. Those killings are just collateral damage.

CGBF: When our species found you, you were living in caves, we carefully nurtured you, gave you enough to survive, taught you how to co-exist with nature. Now when we look back we feel ashamed of doing that.

You say you love your Gods, yet you hate His creation. You kill your own species for Him, you sacrifice His other creations to please Him. Tell me how would you think if I destroy your Monkey Software stating that I love you?

Me: It’s a thoughtful words. I don’t know how to answer.

CGBF: You say earth is your mother and you pollute it with most toxic chemicals, you pray trees yet you cut it for building houses for Gods. We are unable to understand your love for God. Thank God we found your species in the farthest corner of the galaxy else…. *Shudders*

(I was speechless by this time, I can’t defend my fellow humans actions but it is very profound. A person or shall I say an Alien contacted me to stop my program so that it doesn’t destroy my own planet, and here we are creating those programs in the name of nuclear bombs, religious books, political ideology which can destroy our planet 1000 times. Being very ashamed…..)

Me: It was nice talking to you. Hope to chat with you soon. Please tell me how to do that.

CGBF: It is very easy. Ask your monkeys to do that… *Winks* Hope to see your planet in good health.

I heard a phone call from a far and I woke up. My soul friend was calling me to ask if I have started writing or not.

By, I am that “K” (His pseudonym)

He can be contacted on Twitter at Cydonia and he is a Total web nerd. Professional Reader. Certified Thinker. Travel Scholar. Problem solver. Twitter ninja. Ex-blogger.

Day#29 -Drink Champagne & Dance on the Table

I was thinking of throwing a blog party – but then I decided to or not to. Who would come to celebrate 3months success of a blog? Would there be wine and cheese? Would people dress up in their finest evening wear to meet me, the blogger and ask her to sign her blog post?

The simple answer is no. But this is what I have in my mind. I know books are totally different but so are blogs, for me it’s a magical transformation of ideas.

Last night I dreamt around 25 people came online to part in my blog party. Looking around, I couldn’t help but be humbled by the shear brainpower of the people who had chosen to spend their time with me. There were bold face names from the worlds of blogging. There was no shortage of bloggers, which always reminds me that they go out (I really hope so) of their way to support others. To find meaning in clamour, to help understand complex and sometimes overwhelming subjects, and to help each of us make sense in fast moving world.

So the next time, I cross 6months of my blog  do expect an invitation to a party.  But don’t mark in any Friday/Saturday night (s) just yet, these things take time.

Day#28 – Hate is a big word

Its natural for a human being to have likes and dislikes for people, especially the celebrities. But I don’t understand is that why people hate the celebrities they don’t like. Isn’t hate a big word? Some artists are your favourites and some are not. It’s okay. But hating is too much. Posting ridiculous and indecent comments, but why? You don’t like a celebrity, its like you don’t like, why bother the issue more by harsh words?

I read often hateful comments about Justin Beiber, Kristen Stewart, Adele, Shahrukh Khan, Kareena Kapoor, Imam Siddiqui and etc. Why? They don’t even know them personally. Rather, they don’t know them at all. They make their own perceptions and comment about their personal lives. People send out so many negative vibes by all this.

The artists are there to entertain us and they do. We should respect them for that. We should respect them for their talents and art, keeping aside what they do in their personal lives. Whatever they do in their personal lives is their choice. One has no right to intrude upon them, judge them and suggest them what to do and what they should have done.

When you don’t even like your own parents intruding upon you, think about the artists then….

Working from home

From the beginning I have only thought about money, being financially independent.

I started earning officially in 2008 as a freelance writer. My first pay of Rs 500 is still pending, the publication house NEVER bothered to pay and I never bothered to stay there.

I should call it my BAD LUCK because wherever I worked turned defaulters on most of their bills, and paid me after 6 months of quitting the job. The money which freelance writing gives is not LUXURY but definitely essential for the expenses.

I always thought I got patience in genetics but no I was so WRONG. The companies for which I worked and didn’t pay me for months together are the REAL people behind the loads of patience I have now in me. Waiting and I go hand in hand.

I don’t even now remember when was the LAST time I took money from my parents for my use. I have my brother (RICH is his prefix) who is always ready to help me but I can’t keep asking him for money, because I am someone who has been paddling my own boat CLOSE to 5 years+.

I thank my STARS I don’t have to pay house rent, or my car loan because these 2 very basic requirements of life are my OWN. I never had a credit card, because credit card companies don’t offer their cards to people with no fixed income and I never took their calls anytime. I live on my debit card, and so, I am never in arrears. My banker never forces me to have a compulsory balance as I don’t have an account in any international or private bank. Nationalized Indian banks are fine with Rs 1000 as minimum balance which I always endeavor to have.

Working from home has its own perks than an office life. I work in my shorts or pajamas, I don’t have to bother about my looks, it’s not obligatory to be presentable. I don’t have to think about etiquettes. The amount of freedom and time which is REALLY important to me is agreeable but you’ll get screwed up with the money. PEANUTS I must say.

I don’t regret quitting my full time job as an assistant editor, all I was told to do was to write thank you emails to subscribers, event producers and financial supporters. This was NOT the kind of work I was looking forward to do in the position of editorial assistant.

I am ALWAYS in search for new writing/editing projects, anyone who needs help, is reading this; please don’t shilly-shally to get in touch with me.

Day#27 – Hope

A lot of times in life we see that things don’t turn out how we expect them to.

We are always told not to expect. But have you realized this, even while not expecting we are surely expecting.

It is human nature to do things out of love, want or care and yet desire to get all of it in return. What’s wrong in that?

Without reactions, our deeds are followed by heartbreaks, regrets, and anger.

So did I not deserve something in exchange? Am I not good enough to be at the receiving end for once? Or ain’t I just not permitted to wish for the “give and take”?

It’s inevitable for these questions to arise. However hard you try to block them out or you fight with yourself to let them go.

You make it simple and vow not to repeat the history. How long does it work? All it takes is a moment to make you forget the promises you made to yourself when you were deprived of what you craved for.

It is one vicious cycle with “expectations” at its centre. The only key out here is staying power. You bear it, and you learn from it.

It doesn’t mean you don’t repeat your mistakes. You just grow stronger, stronger to tolerate some more.
