With the start of this month May, I am starting a new, weekly series, on my blog. In it I am featuring 20 bloggers for 20 Sundays starting from May till September 2017.
The Blogger to be featured today is Menaka Bharathi
Can you tell me a little about yourself and your blog – mentioning something known and unknown to the readers?
I am Menaka Bharathi a.k.a Simple Indian Mom. I have done my post graduation in Agriculture and going to complete my PhD in the same soon. I am the wife or Dr S Bharathidasan IAS who is also a PhD in Agriculture and is at present serving people at janjgir Champa as Collector. I am mom of two lovely boys Raksh and Yishaanth who help me day in and day out in everything I do. SimpleIndianMom – my brainchild was born in 2008 when I was a new mom and had so many doubts, difficulties and depressions with everything a new stay at home mom faces. I searched through our big brother google to find solutions and started implementing some and not implementing many. With the process I found that some of our traditional methods were better than many of the processes followed. This made me want to dig deeper into Indian culture and tradition and parenting, I wanted to tell that to the world which made me start a blog.
Tell me about some of the people you’ve met while working on your blog or through blogging communities?
I have virtually met many Indian and Foreign bloggers, I think after I joined some blogging communities I have begun understanding blogging better. I have high regards for blogging community like blogchatter, blog-a-rhythm and WriteTribe.
What do you do when you aren’t working on your blog? You can tell me about your usual day routine.
My day starts at 5 in the morning, I begin with a short mindfulness practice and then write something and by seven I am finished with all my writing for the day. After sending my children to school and husband to office I sit in my office to begin my days work. I am currently pursuing my PhD and hence I go to my lab or field to do some research work. I also have launched my organic superfoods, I check on them – the production and marketing and things like that. I have some social event s to attend and I make sure not to miss any. I paint a bit, do some cooking and some Karaoke with my hubby on Saturday nights. My day is always crazily busy till seven in the evening. After 7pm I sit with my children do some schoolwork and we all get to our dinner preparations.
Everyone has a favourite/least favourite post. Tell me about your best and worst post and why?
I started writing about organic food a year before and from then never stopped. I love one post in particular, because I did a lot of research while I wrote the post – It infact made me to work more on organic food
I cannot say any post as least liked one, I put my 100% in every post I write.
Name some of the bloggers – at least 3 of your favourites, whom you look up to and why?
I like Harsh Agarwal from ShoutMeLoud, I am totally impressed on how he has monetised his blog. I also like Pradeep Kumar from SlashSquare, His SEO knowledge is something I always look up to when I need some guidance in SEO. I like you Romila for your promptness. I am always overwhelmed with how you schedule your posts a year before.
Tell me about your proudest achievement(s)? (Related to Blogging)
When I began out blogging I got a hamper from Indus Ladies – I can never have another prod moment like that ever.
If someone was interested in blogging, what would be a few things you would suggest?
- Be consistent
- Don’t think of blogging as a money making tool, you need a lot of hardwork to do before thinking of earning.
- Be yourself – don’t copy. Blogging is an ongoing process and one day or the other your true you will surely show out.
I am sure you know me as a blogger or your friend on social media or may be even as a person in real so how would you rate my writings and tell me your honest opinion on me – this would serve as a testimonial (A new section on my blog where I would put these good words…or maybe the bad ones too)
As a blogger I like (as I said earlier) your scheduling. I have always been in awe of that skill of yours. I like your honesty, I know when I speak to you –that what you say is what you mean – no hearsay, no nonsense with you. You are direct – right or wrong you just don’t mind what others think or expect – you are yourself and that is another quality I would love my own children to have.
‘I am taking My Alexa rank to the next level with Blogchatter’
I write a lot, which keeps me off the streets and out of trouble. There is always something to write about, always a new story to craft. Not writing, for me, is like trying to hold back a sneeze. Learning to write was the most powerful influence in my life. I can still remember the awe I felt when I realized I could put real words onto paper and tell out a story. From that first ‘a-ha’ moment I knew I wanted to write.
